Yesterday’s mostly sunny weather was followed by a dusting last night in the northern ranges. At 5 a.m. temperatures are in the mid-teens with light westerly winds (5-15 mph) at all weather stations except the Bridger Ridge where it has been blowing 20-30 mph since midnight. Today will be sunny and mountain temperatures will reach into the high 20s as winds increase to match those in the Bridger Range. A high pressure ridge is blocking any chance of snowfall for the next three days.
The Bridger Range picked up 4” of snow during the day yesterday while the mountains south of Bozeman picked up 1-2”. This morning, mountain temperatures are in the upper teens to low 20s F and winds are light out of the W-SW. A weak ridge of high pressure will build over the region producing calm conditions and partly cloudy skies. Temperatures will warm into the upper 20s F and winds will remain light out of the west. No snow is expected over the next 24 hours.
Since midnight the Bridger Range has picked up three inches of new snow. The rest of the advisory area has picked up a trace to one inch. At 4 a.m. mountain temperatures are in the 20s F and winds are blowing 10-20 mph out of the W-NW with ridgetop gusts reaching close to 30 mph. Today, light snow will continue with an additional 2-4 inches likely in the Bridgers and 1-3 inches elsewhere. Temperatures will warm into the upper 20s to low 30s F and winds will remain light to moderate out of the W-NW. Snow will taper off this evening and temperatures will drop into the teens F.
Mountain temperatures were in the low to mid 20s F this morning and winds were blowing 10-15 mph from the W and SW. Today will be another great one to be in the mountains with temperatures warming into the upper 20s F and winds remaining light. Clouds will build throughout the day with maybe a trace of snow falling tonight and a few more inches during the day tomorrow.
This morning no new snow was recorded at remote weather stations, but some places like Bozeman received a dusting of snow. Temperatures were in the low teens F in the mountains and single digits in valley locations. Light, westerly winds were only blowing 5-10 mph at ridgetops. Today will be a great one to be in the mountains with sunshine, light winds, and temperatures warming into the upper 20s F.
Many valley locations remained cold yesterday, but mountain temperatures were pushing 40 F and this morning were in the high 20s F. Winds increased a little last night but lessened this morning to 15-25 mph from the W. Today a cold front just east Bozeman will keep temperatures from climbing much higher than they are this morning. Winds should blow 15-25 mph and shift to a NW direction.
Yesterday morning before the storm ended Cooke City picked up a couple more inches. At ridgelines winds blew out of the west at 30-40 mph, but have calmed to 10-20 mph last night. At 5 a.m. valley temperatures are in the low teens and mountain temperatures are in the mid-20s. Today will be mostly sunny, temperatures will rise to near freezing and winds will remain light out of the west.
The mountains around Cooke City are in a solar system of their own. Another 12-16 inches of dense snow has fallen in the last 24 hours and it’s still snowing. The Bridger Range only picked up another inch and the other ranges got 3-5”, but the amounts are misleading since the snow was very wet and it rained to 7,000 feet. Currently mountain temperatures are near freezing with lower 20s being recorded around West Yellowstone and Cooke City. West to southwest winds are averaging 20-30 mph with gusts of 40, except up Hyalite where the gusts have hit 60 mph. Today will be cloudy, winds will decrease and another 2-4 inches will fall around Cooke City.
Over the past 24 hours the mountains near Cooke City have picked up 15” of new snow. The mountains near West Yellowstone and Big Sky have picked up 10-12” while the mountains near Bozeman have picked up 4-8”. Currently, it’s still snowing hard with the exception of the Bridger Range where snowfall has briefly let up. Temperatures are on the rise with most mountain locations reading in the 20s F. Winds are strong out of the W-SW blowing 15-30 mph with upper elevation gusts reaching close to 50 mph. Today, snow will continue over the entire forecast area. The mountains near Cooke City and West Yellowstone will likely pick up 6-10” during the day while the mountains around Bozeman and Big Sky will pick up 4-6”. Light snow will continue tonight with a few more inches possible.
Overnight the Bridger Range picked up four inches of new snow. The rest of the advisory area picked up 1-3 inches. This morning, temperatures range from the single digits to low teens F and winds are light out of the W-NW. Today, an unsettled northwest flow will continue to produce light showers over much of the area with an additional 2-4 inches possible by this afternoon. Temperatures will warm into the upper teens F and winds will remain light to moderate out of the W-NW. A more potent storm system arrives tonight bringing with it heavier snow and stronger winds. The mountains near Bozeman and Big Sky could see 3-5 inches tonight while the mountains around West Yellowstone and Cooke City could pick 6-8 inches. Snow will continue through the day tomorrow.
