Bacon Rind Snowpack

Bacon Rind Snowpack

A layer of near surface facets that formed in early January did not produce unstable results in stability tests.  This pit was dug on a NE facing slope around 9000 ft.  This layer exists in many locations throughout the southern portions of our forecast area.  Although it appears to be gaining strength, this layer should be looked for and assessed before committing to steep slopes.  Photo GNFAC
