The mountains did not receive any new snow since yesterday morning. West to northwest wind yesterday gusted to 40 mph. This morning, wind is westerly at 15-25 mph with gusts of 30-40 mph and temperatures in the 20s F. Under mostly cloudy skies today, temperatures will reach high 30s to 40 F with westerly wind at 15-25 mph. Light snow tonight could produce 1-2” by morning. Looks like rain tomorrow with next chance for snow Thursday.
The mountains got 1” of snow overnight with 3” near Cooke City. This morning, wind is westerly at 15-25 mph with gusts of 40-50 mph and temperatures in the 20s F. Today, under mostly cloudy skies wind will be west to northwest at 25-35 mph with temperatures in the high 20s to low 30s F. Light snowfall tonight will accumulate a trace to 2” by morning.
As snow tapered off yesterday morning the mountains near Big Sky and Cooke City got another 2-4” of dense snow. Yesterday, wind out of the west to southwest reached gusts of 40-50 mph. This morning, wind is west at 10-20 mph and temperatures are 20s to low 30s F. Under partly sunny skies today, wind will be westerly at 5-15 mph with temperatures reaching the mid-30s F. A round of snow showers tonight will drop 2-4” by tomorrow morning.
Overnight the mountains around Cooke City picked up 8-10” of dense snow. The mountains around Big Sky including the southern Madison Range picked up 5-7” while the mountains around Bozeman and West Yellowstone squeezed out 1-2”. At 5 a.m. temperatures range from the upper 20s to low 30s F and winds are blowing 15-30 mph out of the W-SW with ridgetop gusts pushing 40 mph. This morning, the southern ranges could see 1-3” before snow tapers off by this afternoon. As the storm moves east, a ridge of high pressure will build over the area producing partly cloudy skies later in the day. No significant snowfall is expected tonight and tomorrow.
In the last 24 hours the mountains around Cooke City received 12-15” of new snow. The Bridger Range picked up 5” while the mountains around Big Sky and West Yellowstone picked up 1-3”. At 5 a.m. it’s still snowing lightly and temperatures are in the low to mid 20s F. Winds are blowing 15-30 mph out of the W-SW with ridgetop gusts pushing 40 mph. The Bridger Range is calmer with winds blowing 10-20 mph out of the west. Today, light snow will continue and the mountains should see an additional 1-3” by this afternoon. Highs today will warm into the upper 20s to mid-30s F and winds will remain moderate to strong out of the W-SW. A heavier round of snow moves into the area tonight and tomorrow. The northern ranges should pick up 2-4” tonight while the southern mountains including Big Sky should see 5-8”.
In the last 24 hours the mountains around Cooke City and West Yellowstone have gotten 8” of new snow with 3” in Taylor Fork and 1” around Big Sky and Hyalite. Winds are from the southwest to west at 20-25 mph with gusts of 40-50 at the ridgelines. Today, under cloudy skies, winds will continue and temperatures will remain in the low 20s. Snowfall will be steady in the southern mountains and become widespread tonight. By morning the southern mountains will have 6-10”, 4-6” around Big Sky and 2-4” further north.
In the last 24 hours 4” of new snow fell outside Cooke City with 1-2” in the Gallatin and Madison Ranges and Lionhead area. Under mostly cloudy skies, temperatures are in the single digits and west winds are blowing 20-30 mph with gusts of 40-60 mph. The jet stream is overhead and will usher in wind-blown snow. By tomorrow morning the southern mountains will have 4-6” of new snow with 2-4” falling in the northern ranges.
At 6 a.m. the mountains south of Bozeman have 7-11” of new snow and the Bridger Range has 2”. Wind this morning is west-northwest at 10-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, and temperatures are single digits to low teens F. Temperatures will be teens F most of today with west wind at 15-25 mph. Steady, light snow showers continue through tonight with more expected this week. By tomorrow morning the mountains will have 4-7” of new snow.
Flurries of snow yesterday piled up 1-2” in the Madison Range and a trace to 1” elsewhere. Wind overnight was south-southwest at 15-25 mph with gusts around 40 mph. Gusts reached 73 mph at Big Sky and 61 mph near Cooke City. Temperatures this morning are 20s to low 30s F. Temperature won’t warm much before cold air moves in with temperatures in the teens F, possibly early this afternoon. Wind will remain south-southwest at 20-40 mph this morning, and shift west at 20-30 mph this evening. Skies will be mostly cloudy with scattered snow showers through tonight. The mountains will get 3-5” with up to 9” near West Yellowstone by morning.
