At 4am the mountains have 1-2” of new snow in most areas with 3” near Cooke City. Yesterday, wind speed increased to 15-25 mph out of the west-southwest with gusts overnight of 40-55 mph. Temperatures are teens F this morning and will be teens to low 20s F today and tomorrow, then warm to the mid-30s early next week. Snow showers today and tomorrow will drop 4-6” in the mountains with 8-10” possible near Cooke City by the end of the weekend.
Since Monday morning the Bridger Range got 16” of new snow, Cooke City, Hyalite and Big Sky got 10-12”, and 5” fell in the southern Madison Range and near West Yellowstone. Wind has been westerly at 5-15 mph and temperatures this morning are teens to low 20s F. The mountains will get 1-3” of snow this evening with clear skies expected Thursday and Friday. Temperatures will be mid-20s F with overnight lows reaching single digits F and wind at 5-15 mph out of the west.
Since Saturday morning the mountains have picked up 8-12” in the northern areas and 6-8” in the south. Winds blew 20-40 mph from the west with gusts into the 60’s. Snow has tapered off but looks to pick up this afternoon into tomorrow. The rest of the week is forecasted to be snowy and cold with daytime highs only reaching the high 20s in the mountains.
In the last 24 hours 2-5” of snow fell at high elevations. Rain was reported below 8000’ so exact snowfall amounts are unknown. Regardless, precipitation fell and westerly winds blew 25-30 mph with gusts of 60 mph. Winds have calmed this morning to 15-30 mph and snowfall has tapered. Temperatures are in the mid 20’s F and should remain below freezing through the weekend. Expect scattered snowfall today with the storm kicking into high gear Sunday morning and dropping a total of 12-16” by early Monday.

Heavy rain in Bozeman last night fell as snow in the mountains. The Bridger Range got up to a foot of heavy snow (and some rain) while the rest of the mountains got 3-5”. Temperatures this morning are in the mid-30s F and wind is westerly at 15-25 mph with gusts of 35-45 mph. Temperatures will be in the 30s F today and cool to high 20s F this weekend. Wind today will be westerly at 25-35 mph with gusts of 50-60 mph. Snow showers tonight and tomorrow will drop 4-6” in the mountains, and heavier snow on Sunday could deliver upwards of 6-12”.

Cold and unsettled weather over the past week delivered fresh snow to the mountains. Since Saturday the Bridger Range and mountains near Big Sky got 7-11” of snow, and near Cooke City and West Yellowstone got 5”. Wind was easterly at 5-15 mph the first half of the week, and shifted yesterday to west-southwest at 15-25 mph. Temperatures this weekend will be teens to highs 20s F. Snow on Saturday will drop 2-3” in the mountains with 5-7” possible south of Bozeman and near Cooke City. High pressure from Sunday through next week will bring mostly clear skies and temperatures in the 40s to 50s F.

Like it or not, winter made its first appearance overnight. The mountains near Bozeman and Big Sky got 6-8” of snow, and near West Yellowstone and Cooke City got 2-4”. Temperatures this afternoon are in the high 20s to low 30s F with wind at 5-15 mph out of the west-southwest. This weekend, high temperatures will reach the upper 30s with lows in the 20s F. Wind will be northerly at 5-15 mph. Snow is expected in the mountains Saturday afternoon through Sunday. Most areas will get 2-5” with up to 8” possible near Cooke City by the end of Sunday.
On Friday and Saturday, temperatures in the mountains reached 60 F under mostly clear skies and overnight lows were mid to high 30s F. Over the past 24 hours the mountains received scattered rain showers and an inch or two of snow last night. Wind has been southwest to southeast at 5-10 mph and temperatures this morning are mid-20s to low 30s F. Colder and cloudier weather is forecast through the first half of the week. Temperatures will be high 20s to mid-30s F with light to moderate northerly wind. Scattered snow showers are expected daily in the mountains with 1-3” of snow possible each day through Wednesday.
Temperatures this morning are low to mid-30s F and wind is southerly at 5-10 mph. The mountains have not received any new snow since Monday. Today will be clear with temperatures reaching high 50s F and easterly wind at 5-15 mph. Temperatures will remain above freezing tonight and tomorrow, and wind will shift to southwest at 10-20 mph. A cold front Saturday night will bring rain, followed by snow through Monday. Expect precipitation totals between 0.5 and 1” of water equivalent with 3-5” of snow possible in the mountains south of Bozeman by Monday.
