Scattered snow showers yesterday delivered a trace to 2” of low density snow to the mountains. Temperatures this morning are in the teens F and will be in the 20s F today. Winds overnight were out of the west-southwest at 10-20 mph with gusts in the mid-30s and up to 45 mph at Bridger Bowl. Strong westerly winds will continue today and increase to 25-35 mph this afternoon and shift to the north overnight. Expect snow late this morning through tomorrow. The mountains will get 5-7” by morning and another 3-5” tomorrow.
Snowfall yesterday favored the mountains near Big Sky with up to 11” of low density snow. The mountains near Bozeman got 7”, and 3-5” fell near West Yellowstone and Cooke City. Winds overnight were 10-20 mph out of the north-northwest, and temperatures this morning are in the teens F. Today will be mostly cloudy with light snow showers this afternoon. Temperatures will be in the 20s F and wind will be out of the northwest at 10-20 mph. Minimal snow accumulation is expected today with more snow Thursday and Friday.
An upper level trough and an approaching cold front will create unsettled weather today. At 5 a.m. under cloudy skies the mountains around Lionhead and Cooke City received 2” of snow. Temperatures are in the mid-20s and winds are 10-15 mph out of the S-SW. Winds will shift to the north at 10-20 mph this morning as rain in the valleys gives way to snow in the mountains. By tomorrow morning Cooke City is expected to have an additional 10”, with 3-6” everywhere else.
Yesterday, under sunny skies, temperatures touched 50F in the mountains. Last night, clouds rolled in and temperatures remained a few degrees above freezing except in Lionhead and Cooke City. Winds are currently blowing 20 mph out of the southwest and gusting to 45 mph. Today will be cloudy and temperatures will rise to 40F as winds remain steady out of the southwest. Tonight, temperatures will cool and rain and snow will fall. By morning, there should be an inch of new snow in the north with 2-4 inches around West Yellowstone and Cooke City. Tomorrow will be stormy and snowy.
Under clear skies westerly winds are light and temperatures dropped from a yesterday’s high near 40F to the upper 20s this morning (upper teens outside Cooke City). Today will be sunny and warm with mountain temperatures reaching the mid-40s. Winds will remain 10-15 mph out of the W-SW and clouds will roll in tonight, but no precipitation is expected. Today, the danger of getting a sunburn is rated CONSIDERABLE.
A strong ridge of high pressure is producing clear skies and calm conditions. This morning temperatures range from the single digits above or below zero – the coldest temps we’ve seen in over a month. Winds are light out of the W-NW. Today, skies will remain clear and winds will blow 5-15 mph out of the W-NW. Temperatures will warm into the 20s to low 30s by this afternoon. High pressure will remain the dominant weather pattern through the weekend.
The mountains near Bozeman, Big Sky, and the southern Madison Range got 2-3” of snow yesterday, and the rest of the area got a trace. Temperatures this morning are in the single digits F and wind is northerly at 5-15 mph. Today will be mostly sunny, temperatures will be in the teens to low 20s F, and wind will remain light out of the north-northwest. Expect warm temperatures and clear skies this weekend.
The northern Gallatin Range got 4” of snow last night while the rest of the mountains received 1-2” of snow. Winds have been out the west-northwest at 5-15 mph with gusts in the 20s. Temperatures this morning are in the single digits to low teens F and will be in the teens to low-20s F today. Wind will be 5-15 mph out of the northwest and shift to the northeast tonight. A moist northwest flow today will deliver 4-7” of snow to the mountains around Bozeman and Cooke City, and the mountains near Big Sky and West Yellowstone will get 2-4”.
Yesterday morning’s snowfall measured 1-2” with west winds gusting into the 40s. Overnight, winds have lessened to 15-25 mph and temperatures dropped to the single digits. Today will be mostly cloudy with temperatures reaching the low 20s F with 20 mph winds from the northwest. Scattered snow showers tonight will drop 1-2” by morning, continuing our March Madness streak of snowfall. We’ve had snow 11 out of the last 15 days.
In the last 24 hours the mountains picked up 1-2” of new snow with Cooke City getting 3”. Winds have been steady out of the west at 15-20 mph with gusts of 30 mph. Under cloudy skies mountain temperatures are 10F this morning. Today will remain cloudy as a moist northwest flow brings snow showers and 20-30 mph winds from the W-NW with temperatures in the low 20s. By tomorrow morning I expect 2-3” of new snow.
