This avalanche was from a cornice breaking at the ridgetop. It's a northeast facing slope on Sheep Mountain outside Cooke City. The fact that it did not propagate far is a good sign, but cornices can pose serious problems as they grow and break, often triggering slides. Photo GNFAC
